Dear MERTZ:
How do you adequately thank a community of people who have selflessly given so much of themselves? What you accomplished as a participant in AIDS/LifeCycle 9 is truly incredible. Your physical endurance, high spirits and true compassion characterized our memorable week together. Our clients will benefit most—the average dollars raised by participants—in this down economy—was the highest it has ever been!
With your extraordinary efforts, ALC9 raised more than $10 million. And with your commitment to safety, this was one of the safest rides ever.

It’s very likely that you’re now suffering from a common malady known as PRD, or “Post Ride Depression.” Symptoms include a longing to once again be surrounded by an amazing community of loving, caring people, accompanied by a desire to be part of something so special again. There’s an easy prescription for treating PRD: staying connected to your fellow roadies and riders!

If you haven’t already joined ALC’s Facebook page, you can stay connected there. And if you haven’t already checked out the “Experience the Ride” pages of the AIDS/LifeCycle website, you’ll find lots of fantastic event photos and videos. When you visit your AIDS/LifeCycle 9 Participant Center, you’ll find a downloadable certificate that commemorates your accomplishment and a thank-you certificate that you can send to your donors. Please display your certificate proudly!

Though there aren’t words to fully express our appreciation, we want you to know how grateful we are for your heroic accomplishment and support. On behalf of the thousands of people served by the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, thank you!!

With much affection and gratitude,

Lorri L. Jean
Chief Executive Officer
L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center

Barbara Kimport
Interim Chief Executive Officer
San Francisco AIDS Foundation

P.S. Registrations for AIDS/LifeCycle 10 are coming in at a record rate. More than 1,600 cyclists are already registered for ALC’s 10th anniversary! We hope you’ll ride with us next year--that’s the best cure for PRD--and if you intend to, don’t wait to sign-up. Once we reach capacity, we’ll be forced to close registration.
