Did a gig with Dwight Dickinson last night at Tiny Tavern. It was a benefit for Brain Ake and the Family Mullet, as they got pulled over on their way to play a show in McMinnville, their RV was impounded and they got tons of fines for expired tags, speeding, and I don't know what all. So they raffled some gay porn and PEZ dispensers... Walking Trainsong played, which I didn't see, they're some (other) ex-bandmates of Mr. Mertz...

Soothesayers play in Portland this evening at Kelly's Olympian.

JP has graduated. We were kind of biting our nails that he might need summer shcool for a while there. Anyhoo, Mertz Manor crammed to the gills with house guests. Epic dinner Friday was Roast leg of Lamb, salmon, stuft grape leaves (dolmas) roast potatoes, greek salad. Last night after the commencement ceremony, the fam went to PF Chang's, I know neither local nor terribly fresh but they have good gluten free options (JP has celiac's disease) and we were able to reserve a table for twelve at 9 pm on a Friday.

My allergies have been intense, everyone's have: neezing everywhere you go, people wearing dust masks... my eyes watering 24/7, waking up at night all stuffed up. Claritin, Zaditor, Nalacrom and albuterol and still I'm a snotty, drippy mess.

I've secured a part time research job, and I have an interview tomorrow for something more full-time.
I may have some recourse to keep my old health plan, by paying it directly... which would kick ass.

I haven't ben that excited about jazz in a while, but I really enjoyed some more recent stuff I've heard by Henry Threadgill , like the VERY VERY CIRCUS and his smaller bands, sextet etc. NPR aint ALL bad, I guess.

I got tickets to the X show at Roseland theater in portland as Xmas gifts for my brother Timothy and sister Paula, so Nux and I left the kids with my Dad and Annie... (was that safe?) and we went to see a really amazing awesome shoe. Soothesayers Tim and Jenn were there, also ran into Sean Shanahan, Bruce from the Detonators, and John from Campfire Punk.

After the show, we went to the coin operate 24 hour church of Elvis, then back to my Dad's as Tim's flight was hella early Sunday morning.

We are the music-makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams.
World-losers and world-forsakers,
Upon whom the pale moon gleams;
Yet we are the movers and shakers,
Of the world forever, it seems.

With wonderful deathless ditties
We build up the world's great cities,
And out of a fabulous story
We fashion an empire's glory:
One man with a dream, at pleasure,
Shall go forth and conquer a crown;
And three with a new song's measure
Can trample an empire down.

We, in the ages lying
In the buried past of the earth,
Built Nineveh with our sighing,
And Babel itself with our mirth;
And o'erthrew them with prophesying
To the old of the new world's worth;
For each age is a dream that is dying,
Or one that is coming to birth.
