TEN GOOD SHOTS, I'LL TAKE THEM ALL

Rest in peace, Grandma Gladys.
we tried to get down to Walnut Creek before my (step)Grandma passed away. we were about an hour out of Oakland area when Arnie called to tell us she had gone. She was up and about last Wednesday, eating sandwiches, but using an oxygen tank. When my Uncle Neal arrived Friday, she was not conscious or lucid, and didn't regain consciousness before her breathing stopped.
Grandma was diagnosed with Neural Endocrinal cancer, a very aggressive type. It has matastasized in most of her major organs by the time they found it, in late november. Doctors gave her 6 months at that time.
For me, I was a little conflicted whether going down was the right move, I knew that if we missed her, I might be able to attend her memorial, in New Jersey, but at the time, I didn't know when that might be. as it turned out, having the kids there probably lightened everyone's mood. that Santina is quite a charmer...
big ups to Dan and Tacy for taking care of Waffles during our brief but brief absence.

I felt like Lando Calrissian, the deal kept getting worse
Downgraded truck, downgraded girly, just wait till the 2nd verse(their blessing was my curse)
I felt like Guido in a speedo, on a windy beach in the rain
my manhood was shrinking, my loss was their gain
Abandoned common sense, for a run at the big time
But I lost in spades, over a gradual decline
now THIS is gone, now THAT is gone, my life hangs in the balance
doing the things I wouldn't do, If I was using common sense
Trapped in a funnel, from where no light can escape
a tragic turn of events, and this time its too late
Signed in blood on the dotted line
But the writing that appeared didn't look like mine
Calligraphy script from Corporate say-so
Shoulda tore it up, but I moved too slow....
Charlemagne school Mardi Gras party kicked ass. Being on the cleanup crew kicked ass. Santina kicks ass.
Today, I'll attend a songwriter's workshop at Tsunami Bookstore on Willamette (dammit) but I frankly don't have such high hopes for the Q&A and critique, but more for meeting a few cool peeps.
Soothesayers play at Diablo's for a benefit of mr kite. Roller Dirty team the Church of Sk8in, actually. Its gonna be a KILLER show... DO NOT MISS IT.

Date: 2010-02-14 01:33 am (UTC)Gran's Funeral is tomorrow in New Jersey... theres a weird Orthodox rule that I was not aware of, the funeral must be within 3 days of the deceased's passing, or else an Orthodox Rabbi won't preside over it. I cannot begin to say how messed up that is. I kind of 'get' how that rule first came up, but I think that it does not apply in the 21st century, in a first world country.
Lots of Kosher laws have a basis in science, safety and hygiene, and I guess that is probably how that 'LAW' came about but its VERY cruel.
Because of all the heavy snow back east, it was impossible to ship her body back there within that time frame, as most shipping routes were backed up...
