Thursday, some visitors arrived at the broom shop.
This is not an uncommon occurrence, it happens once or twice a month, at least. We had some visitors earlier in the week, they arrived unannounced, I welcomed them, as best I could but I was working on the band saw. Brody was in the shop, and may have been in a better spot to guide them around and help them make a purchase, but he has rather loudly stated that he has no interest in that kind of role in the shop. the visitors looked around, I showed them to the racks where the kitchen brooms are located. I encouraged them to try out a few brooms. I explained the names and purposes of various hand brooms we make and sell. They purchased a few brooms and left.
But, yes, Thursday, there were 2 guys from the Ninkasi Brewey, they introduced themselves and looked a t a few brooms.
They were mostly talking to Dana, who handles shipping and customer service.
one of them was wearing a baseball cap with a logo that I recognized as a "Blue Lives Matter" insignia, in fact this one also had a ring of stars, recalling the 1776 flag. I gathered this to be a seditionist logo. Something that really sickens me. I am quite sure this young man noticed the look on my face, as though I wanted to puke. I let this notion pass, and didn't mention it.
these brewery guys meentioned they could bring us a case of beer,
and they invited us to the old tasting room, as though this was a special treat that not everyone gets to experience.
after they left, Dana and I were talking about it,
and Brody entered the conversation. He said he hadn't noticed the cap at all, and wouldn't have recognized the logo anyway.
then Brody said he would have kicked these guys out of the broom shop for wearing such garbage,
I said it wasn't really his place to make that call.
then Brody said (to me) 'well at least I'm not an apologist'
this passive-aggressive comment felt hurtful and misguided.
I did briefly tell him how I felt about it, later in the day.
I don't want Brody's comments to change the way I deal with him, but I feel like he was out of line.
For one thing, I live on site, at the broom shop, during the week. I don't feel like starting a feud with our neighbors, or with other businesses in the neighborhood. I don't want QAnon people to know where I live, or to think that I am their enemy (even if I am)
and next, here is a guy who actively refuses to interact with the public, in the service of the shop, and admittedly, doesn't even know what this logo meant, and he didn't even see it.
I'm doing my best not to let any of that bother me, but I think I'm just going to avoid talking to Brody, at least for the time being.
