my macbook died

I knew it was going to happen, but still it makes me very angry.
the computer itself still works! but the operating system won't update on the Intel chip processor
so even though the machine was working JUST FINE sunday night, and even part of monday morning, when I went to boot up the machine monday, it displayed the "file folder with question mark" which is the Mac equivalent of a BSOD, or 'Blue Screen of Death' that is seen on Microsoft products, of the famous "Red Dot' on playstation machines.
I have a call in to the only reputable mac repair shop in town, but they no longer run a storefront, and only act as a 'pick-up and drop off', and I'm sure they are quite busy, and may never even get back to me, considering the problem that I have is probably not worth their time.
So, I had to break down and get a microsoft HP laptop
This thing will not allow me to use FIREFOX as my preferred browser, because it only runs in "S Mode" , supposedly this is for my safety, but we all know what their real motivation is.
They want to restrict me to only download microsoft approved products, which is a whole other level of 'big brother' that I wasn't ready for.
I will find a way to 'jail-break' both machines. I know that I can use a LINUX system on the macbook, but I will have to use some kind of 'first-aid' boot drive to get it running properly again in order to load the required components.


I went on amazon (another evil entity IMHO) to price new laptops, and they won't deliver to my PO Box in Oakridge, OR to the broom shop (because it is a business) so I had to resort to purchasing this HP Microsoft laptop with pre-loaded Windows 10 in S Mode.

I was sitting here in my trailer, typing this sad tale, when Thurman knocked on my door. He has asked me to accompany him to the bike store to purchase an electric bike. He rides the bike with his dog, Ranger, and he has been feeling guilty that, since his old E-bike stopped working (actually, he left the charger out in the rain..... ) Of course I agreed to go with him, while we were talking, Ranger made a "boom boom" on what is effectively my front lawn. I've been trying to discourage her from doing that, of course, and Thurman was so animated talking about the bike, that I didn't bother to interrupt him.
Once he was almost done talking, Ranger began to eat the evidence.
I finally brought all of these things to Thurman's attention, but by then, Ranger was all done, and there was nothing left for anyone to clean up.... some problems just kind of solve themselves, I guess.
