then in february, I will fly to chicago to see Screeching Weasel with Colin & Heidi, then drive with them from Chicago to Eugene, where we will see Burger a Go Go, featuring the Coathangers, and then Gogol Bordello at Bend!

I spent New Years Eve taking care of my Dad in Portland. That kind of sucked. My Dad still doesn't have a plan for long-term, in-home care, and he won't submit to a nursing home, so my Sister, already stressed to the point of depression, is saying she will have him live at her house.

all of his tests indicate that he is now cancer-free, but he sleeps almost constantly, and he's very weak. He was very lucky not to have worse outcome from the two strokes he has suffered, but he has no strength, no energy, very little appetite, and now he's refusing to bathe because he's scared of falling.

my brother Tim is flying back up here tomorrow, he has missed a tremendous amount of work.

My psychologist says that people with brain injuries sleep a lot, as it helps the brain recover (I think). I don't know if it will help, but when I am too crazy to deal with a shower, I take a bucket shower. Put a bucket in the tub. Fill it with water of a comfortable temperature. Sit on the floor of the tub. Pour water over yourself with a plastic cup. Apply soap. Use more water from the bucket to rinse. It is quiet, soothing, and takes little energy. Also, I found, especially when I first had my brain injury, that making decisions was incredibly stressful, confusing, and difficult. It is still difficult. Your dad might not be able to come up with options.

This sounds incredibly stressful. I hope that you all are able to find something that works.

Yes! Bucket showers are great for camping and if you have to live in a storage unit! (ahem)

My dad's at the point where we are going to have to hoist him often, even on the shower chair.
and we're definitely making some choices for him when feasible, but my brother says he's asking "This, no that" a lot now and I fear that we're going to have to take him back to a convalescent home where they're better equipped and trained.
