I'm back in my mountain retreat, watching the new Ronny Chieng "special" on Netflix.  Its a comedy show,  don't you know.

Last week, I attended a cruise, The Salty Dog Cruise.  The attendees call themselves 'shipmates' and some of them are obsessively posting every moment of their lives on the Facebook group.

I can understand, if people are in bands, or entertainment, or promotion otherwise, or I guess for purposes of philanthropy, that their story is exciting enough to follow along via facebook or instagram or whatever....

And I'm not aspiring to become a social media star or whatever!  Ha!  but I will put up my goofy pictures from the cruise here.

As I'd mentioned last time, X has been a favorite of mine for a long long time.

ALSO On the the boat were DESCENDENTS:

Me and Bill Stevenson (famed drummer of Black Flag, ALL, DESCENDENTS) picture taken by Stephen Egerton.

I found my pal Nathen Maxwell (Flogging Molly, Volores) , one of the few people I really feel like I know, early on the cruise,  we had our first meal on the boat together, and we got a chance to chat a bit and catch up, obviously his band is doing very well, and they are touring with The Interrupters soon, which will make for an amazing show. Then I set out to find some of the frequent Facebook pals on the ship,  its weird but very cool  to finally meet  some people that I've corresponded with...

Anyway

The Cruise was fun, I met and partied with a lot of cool people, and obviously, saw some great bands.  And I could only take in so much of it, I didn't push myself to try and do everything, in fact, I pretty much had a SPA DAY, rather than going onshore for the "swim with the pigs" excursion.  Just the thought of that makes me feel like I got pinkeye!

NOPE

Speaking of which, despite the crew's insistence on squirting my hands with sanitizer every single time, and saying "Washy Washy!" each time, some of my shipmates got the norovirus.  or what they call "Proceed to the nearest exit"  which is terrible, and can dehydrate humans very quickly spreads like wildfire in tight populations like, say, onboard a ship, for instance.....

I'll call myself lucky, but I'm also pretty careful about that stuff.....

I went onshore at Nassau.   I rented a janky-ass scooter

Other performers that I saw on the boat include Frank Turner, The Vandoliers, Los Volores, Agent Orange, Punk Rock Karaoke, Russkaja, The CherryCokes,
But I didn't see much point in trying to over-do things.  I have some foot pain and some knee pain that occasionally flare up after being on my feet for hours on end.  and I didn't over-do it with alcohol, except for maybe the last night, after sharing a bottle of (very good) red wine with my pal Larry, he invited me to share a cigar and some scotch with him.
So we visited the cigar room, a place I never pictured myself being, but when in rome?  The cigar was not unpleasant, a cuban cigar, rolled in the Bahamas, supposedly.  and Johnny Walker Black Scotch, which I guess is good stuff, but it seems a little.... pedestrian? compared to the local craft distilleries that Eugene is now famous for, not to mensch, The Deepwoods distillers here in Oakridge, but
of course, the cigar room was filled with some of the right-wingers on the boat, Larry referred to a gentleman there as "Blackwater" and sure enough, there were a few soldiers hanging out in the cigar room, and the one I sat next to seemed to be a kind of "alpha" in this group.  He tolerated my presence and found that I had some interesting things to add to their conversation.  This guy was from Utah, and had some fancy camera (GoPro) equipment that we chatted about.
and my take-away from speaking with some of these guys at length, is that the U.S. has a lot of CIA or black ops advisors in Ukraine.
Weirdly, as our chat wound down, the cigar room became a dressing room for Tokyo Irish Punk band The CherryCokes.

I got stuck in Miami for an extra day on
you guessed it

April Fool's Day

My flight was at 11:30.  I was in the airport and through TSA before 9, but the flight was delayed multiple times, then they changed the arrival gate multiple times, then the flight was canceled, and long-story-short, 12 hours later I was still in Miami, so I booked a completely new flight out the following afternoon, and by the skin of my teeth, made it back to Eugene 24 hours later than I'd intended.

I boarded my connection in Denver and the guy in the seat next to me saw my giant tattoo and asked, "is that Teren's Pirate Radio"?  and I said yes, he introduced himself as Adam, and said he'd done Teren's Pirate Radio tattoos...... 12 years ago.....

I am happy to be back at the broom shop, and I'm looking forward to Oregon Country Fair in July.  I have brooms up for sale at Lion Mountain Bakery in Oakridge and at Rooted Grounds Coffee in Eugene.

Thanks again for finding me here!
