I got a call about midnight Tuesday, John's in hospital, he had a stroke, he fell, he's talking funny, word salad, left side of his body not responding to stimuli like it should etc. He was at OHSU, picked up by ambulance, when a passing motorist dialed 911. They had pulled over to offer assistance to him, and then he fell.
He lost his glasses, they tore a lot of his clothing unnecessarily (neither of us are the type to complain about piddle little shit like that, I think I can say with some certainty)
A nurse told me that Columbia Sportswear (the jacket he had) will sometimes replace in case of such emergencies. Worth looking into.
They operated on his blood clot in the right hemisphere of his brain within the 2 hours it took me to get to Portland. When I arrived, about 2 am wednesday, the whole team was there with him, and reporting great improvements in motor function on both sides of his body, the surgery done by micro tools sent up the artery from his groin. all subsequent CAT scans indicate success.
It is now Friday at 10:30, my Dad is still at OHSU, he's in a regular hospital room, but he will get released today, and I'll play a show tonight at (you guessed it) Old Nick's
I did October right. I got over a messy breakup, I quit drinking alcohol, got back on the bicycle, got out on my motorcycle a lot, I got five fiends of mine into the SOLD OUT Flogging Molly show at McDonald Theater, hosted my pal Colin Burrowes from Canada for a week and we went to see Jesus and Mary Chain. Halloween was kind of chill, just an extra long band practice
November I worked my fanny off at Garden Place, even took some overnight shifts, went to Berkeley, L.A.
Now I'm signing up for ALC, the 25th anniversary of the AIDS Ride, Calornia. Its been 18 years since I rode with Arnie in 1999, the same year I moved to Eugene.
Now I'm off to play the Krampus show!
