best paddys evarrrrr & recap of 7/4/09
Jul. 11th, 2009 10:41 amhad a quiet mellow practice with the puds last night, new songs:
Tom's song, I can't remember a title but its chorus "I fear nothing, I'm in the union" or some such.
a couple of instrumentals coming along: One step Beyond, Guns of navarone

7/4/09 woked up early and rode to Corvalis w/ Dr. Ake. Chris Ross picked us up from the peacock, where I refarined from partaking of the bloody marys despite how ffreaking awesome they looked. we ate at a nice YUPscale burger place.
the night of 4th of July was my best ever time with Man Overboard, playing the construction crew's party at Oregon Country Fair.
We played a fairly LOOSE but very FUN set at the Mermaid camp:
Banish Misfortune
Whisky Before Breakfast
Shiver Me Timbers (From Muppet Treasure Island)
Days of Yore/Mick Maguire
Raven's Perch at Gallow's end
Julia Delany/Jump at the sun
And Mertz's tunes:
General Guinness
Ballad of Thunder Road
then we went a-roving through the deserted 'street' of the fair, mostly to Mertz's banjo/harmonica rendition of BELLA CIAO, and some of the aforementioned ONE STEP BEYOND. with dancing pixies lighting our way and guiding us, we pirated the main stage, where we played for a while including:
Whisky in the Jar/Whisky You're the Divil
Irish Rover/Wild Rover
Hops and Barley
The pixies and Mermaids then led us to the camp kitchen, where we played a few more songs,
and then we were ushered to the large campfire where we played for another half hour or 45 including
Seven Drunken Nights
a reprise of the 'General Guinness'
and 'Which Side are You On?'
after that it took a while to re-group as some of the crew were 3 sheets to the wind. Joel, our phenomenal Bodrhanist, remarked that he had been awake for over 20 hours and he cashed in his chips but
the fiddlers and mandolins went till about 4 in the morning. much to the dismay of the campers all round... maybe. Despite being at the mermaid's camp, we wound up never playing THE MERMAID, one of my favoritest M.O.B. tunes to harp on.
M.O.B. is playing in portland at the plunderthon pirate pub crawl today/tonight but I can't fathom following drunks around for 12 hours. plus I have so much work to do around Mertz Manor, its positively sick.
I'll take waffles to the dog park, and maybe tonight I'll go to see Dan Jones and the Underlings at Luckey's, tho I hate the way you have to navigate that narrow bar to get to the stage area....
The Fuchsia ain't looking good...
