Portland Visit with the family
Apr. 16th, 2006 09:23 am
in portland, the Mertz Family checked out Powell's and all the funky bookstores and record stores and collectible toy stores nearby.
we found a sweet ass turquoise colored flat couch (MOD) but it was $500. maybe we'll come back for it some day.

Apparently, Franciscan made China that is pretty run-of-the-mill, but my brother is collectiong some of their late 50's MOD styled pieces. "Oasis" and "Atomic" lines were the ones that caught my eye. This "Star"/'starburst pattern is all over everywhere as recognizably retro.

It appears that my oldest brother is spending a small fortune collecting these on EBAY.
cheers
EDIT 4/23/19: I still love these Franciscan "Oasis" and "Atomic" themed lines of plates, cups, oddly shaped serving dishes, etc. The "Oasis" pattern is below. It reminds me a little of Mondrian paintings, but it has some kind of retro/future vibe that rings with a kind of Zen magic for me.
