Gran's Funeral is tomorrow in New Jersey... theres a weird Orthodox rule that I was not aware of, the funeral must be within 3 days of the deceased's passing, or else an Orthodox Rabbi won't preside over it. I cannot begin to say how messed up that is. I kind of 'get' how that rule first came up, but I think that it does not apply in the 21st century, in a first world country.
Lots of Kosher laws have a basis in science, safety and hygiene, and I guess that is probably how that 'LAW' came about but its VERY cruel.
Because of all the heavy snow back east, it was impossible to ship her body back there within that time frame, as most shipping routes were backed up...
