thank god its friday
HAPPY NEW YEAR! and thanks for finding me here!
I'm back on the bike, for the first time, in a while......
my new bike route in Eugene goes from the broom shop, but follows the western portion of my old route, all flat, prone to some wind in spots, but flat.
I used to roll out from the Friendly Area Neighborhood, as it is called, through the disc golf course at Chambers and West 18th Avenue, and over a pedestrian bridge, behind Albertson's market, and on the bike path that follows the "Amazon Creek" waterway in west Eugene, out to a (rather small) portion of wetlands preserve that borders on Green Hill Avenue to the west.
This is a neat little ride, very little traffic
and the very last quarter mile is a straightaway, that allows a little speed.
on my old route, I would have probably run into flooded spots
Its about 15 miles round trip, this is the first time I've done it in about three months.... holy cow.
It didn't rain hard on this ride, but my pants and socks get pretty soaked and dirty. For my birthday gift to myself, I will get some good rain pants.
Speaking of gifts to myself, I am also looking at electric-assist bikes, with big puffy tires that can run through mud, snow, sand etc. There are a couple of shops I will be visiting in the coming days to find out more, and do some testing and research. I purchased a full face helmet, they only had size large, and its a tight fit, so I'm considering returning it....
I would mostly use the puffy tire bike up in oakridge, where there are more groovy trails

I rang in the new year at my Dad's place, with my sister. I ate chicken strips and tomato bisque from Fred Meyer Deli, and watched the pilot episode of Futurama. Paula tried to get Dad's TV to show Schmigadoon, I think she paid for the subscription just to watch that particular show, and it would NOT play. everything else seemed to work, except the one thing we really wanted to watch.....

NOPE!
It's Brian time USA, and I will turn 52 on Sunday. My house-mates have insisted that I be there so they can celebrate.
also, its pay day, and I did a dye day on tuesday, so I actually have a decent check coming.

The shop has lots of orders for carved walking sticks, and that is great, but I'm having trouble finding enough sticks. because they are walking sticks, I want them to be pretty straight and safe! but there are too few straight sticks already....
be well. stop by again soon.
