my brain is a little mushy this mornin.
so i played a lot of banjo last night.  Sean Schock only had one direct box, which was used for the guitar, Bucky's mandolin and my banjo were plugged directly into the board, which makes for a kind of yucky sound.

if you like electronic music, and "nyquil-zone" in particular, then please check out this new track my son uploaded to his SOUNDCLOUD:  https://soundcloud.com/deadjunes/may

Rainbow Connection played on resonator guitar and 'humming tremolo' moothie.  hearken back to the days of my harmonica obsession:

Davy Jones Locker Combo has 2 final shows: August 2nd at Tiny Tevern, and August 3rd at 2 pm @ the Whiteaker People's Party also (sigh) at Tiny Tavern. I mostly don't have a lot of time to setup any shows between family, home, work and school. We may stick around in some format under a different name, at least me and Motor City Scott. The Soothesayers are playing the Whiteaker PP at 8 pm.
recap:
DJLC 8/2 at Tiny's with BrainAke & PetitMort
DJLC 8/3 Tiny's parking lot 2 pm
Soothesayers 8/3 Tiny's 8 pm.
Anyhoo, today marks the official start of my new hours at work.

I got my baritone guitar, but it needs a setup (intonation & truss rod adjustment) otherwise it sounds great,

also this: JP will be graduating this coming week. JP was good about going to Santina's ballet peformace yesterday with the family, inlcuding my (paternal) Dad, who drove down from Portland for the ballet... JP's pretty active on soundcloud, when he should be probably working on illustrating a book, 'Strong Jay'- but this is what he's been up to: ♠JUNES♠.

Nuxie's guppies had babies! We rounded up as many as we could and put in an isolation 'nursery' that separates the babies (fry) from adult fish, because the fry get eaten... by everybody. The frogs eat 'em, mommies and daddies eat 'em, even the neon tetras got a piece of the action, by eating the babies. On a less joyous note, while cleaning Nuxie's tank, I noticed tiny white worms (planaria) which are not harmful (but totally disgusting imho) so I vacuumed the substrate (gravel) and we did a 35% water change, the results have been good. Next thing is to stop feeding the fish (except the babies!) for a few days and be more careful about overfeeding... I tell ya, its the darn frogs! You want to make sure they're getting food after all, but I guess they can probably go a few days wihtout food, expecially after binging on babies!

Mertz Manor will be full to the brim with family visitors for the graduation next Saturday. Then, Soothesayers play at Kelly's Olympian in Portland, June 15th and Davy Jones Locker Combo plays an acoustic set June 29th at Cozmik Pizza.

I got calls today from both Royal Ave Project and Safe Haven to work relief shifts. Unf'ly I can't work either, as I have classes this aft, but its nice to know I'm high on the list. I still haven't done case management at Royal, and I'm anxious to get into more ACT sessions and find out about the 'wisdom journeys' (and perhaps take one or two for myself).

this video is of a song my family used to sing in the car on long trips, kind of a campfire/drinking song. The boy scouts have their version, which is called the Quartermaster's Store and obv'ly doesn't include the alcohol references. The singalong parts are meant to be shouted lustily, I'm sure I'll get to do a more rousing version again soon with some participants singing along but for now, this is it. cheers, thanks for watching, or, whatever. up yours.

Getting back into kickboxing regimen , not doing much music lately- the Davey Jones Locker Combo's drummer appears to be burning out, I have a hard time reaching him by phone lately, and then he cancels practices. we are supposed to do a show Sunday night at the old Shoji's on Willamette. If we play it will be at about 11 ....

there were a couple shows I wanted to go to last night, but after two giant beers and tons of cheese and salami, I wound up snoozing on the couch as Santina watched an awful animated movie called 'FLY ME TO THE MOON' about some house flys that ride in the apollo moon lander... yeah.

I ordered a mic pre-amp that I've needed forever... should be churning out some sweet demos soon

then without further ado (Can't believe I haven't posted this here already...) DJLC, Dracula's Daughter!

General Guinness! He's good as irish Stew.

the playing is not that stellar here, this is just a first attempt. I'm getting back the ambidexterity thing, but this particular harmonica line is a little tough for me still, even though the chords are dirt simple.

Our little kitty apears to have left us a baby snake carcass on the back porch as a trophy. (Jackie only leaves them on the front porch.) If shes trying to earn my respect, she's getting it. This is at least the second snake she's caught, the other one I was able to rescue before she tore it apart.

Went to THE VINTAGE (www.thevintageugene.com) with Miss Nuxie last night. had some SUPER bleu cheese fondue and drinks and dinner.

then, the Soothesayers played a short set at Tim's (second) birthday partay last night... our keyboard player, Jenn didn't make it in time for our set, as she was holding court at the roller derby afterbout party.

I need t'go back t'bed, folks...

I love this group. This isn't one of their most 'impressive' numbers, but still an awesome song.
Reminds me of Ennio Morricone, but it was written by Andy Williams (the 'taste of honey' guy)

Took a day to rest and get rid of the flu bug, I had San with me cause she had her 5 year check up and got 4 shots!

I didn't get much done, but I feel I'm not going to get sick. Just keep popping zinc and drinking 'airborn'

Unf, I'm probly going to miss Shotokan tonight.

At least I have some rum left to play the HORATIO game! rules follow (thanks to RAJI.COM)

1. Drink a sip every time someone calls him "H" not "Horatio"

2. Take one swig every time H places his arms akimbo (on his hips).

3. Take two swigs when Horatio takes his sunglasses off for dramatic effect.

4. Likewise, take two swigs when Horatio puts his sunglasses on for dramatic effect.

5. Take three gulps when H wears a dark blazer in the middle of an investigation. (Hello, pastels…this is hot and humid Miami…Crockett and Tubbs land, remember).

6. Drink for four counts when he addresses Jonathan Togo's character as “Mr. Wolfe.”

7. Drink for five counts when he’s talking and his head is tilted at a 45-degree angle. (Don’t forget to add another count if he has his arms akimbo at the same time.)

8. Drink for six counts when the camera films him entering the scene from a low angle for dramatic effect. Some games refer to this as the "Horatio-as-Christ" shot. (Is this because he’s short? IMDB lists him as 5’11.”)

9. Drink for seven if you ever see him smile. (This is extremely rare, but it does happen on occasion.)

10. Guzzle the entire can/bottle when an incredibly hot babe hits on Horatio. Cause, really, she must have the beer goggles on. Or we should put them on in order to buy it.

If you aren’t a fan of CSI: Miami, trust us, you will be after one round of Caruso playing. Oh yeah, and it really helps if you don’t have to be anywhere early on Tuesday morning. Bottoms up!

Happy 2007: the year of DOING STUFF, not GETTING STUFF. and it will be topped off with Xmas 07, the BUY NOTHING XMAS!

(Nuxie gasps in horror!)

Mertz might be playing tin whistle, banjo, and harmonica in a pirate music group here in Eugene. The unfortunate name of the group has nothing whatever to do with pirates , tho... 'AUDIO ACOUSTICA'. I will be doing a CD of the 'Puddletown Pattys' but there will be some lineup changes.

I turn 37 on 1/9/07. the Tom Waits tribute show is at Sam Bond's on 1/13/07 & I'm hoping to get 'Audio Acoustica' to do a number or 2. HAPPY BASTARDS are playing Friday 1/5/07 @ Le Sous Sol and 1/7/07 at Tiny Tavern.

I plan on paying much closer attention to MERTX Jr's academic life, due to his poor grades at 1st term. His advisor has not repllied to either of the 2 emails I've sent, but I've had some contact with the Vice Principal and a Counselor - we've got a meeting set for Friday and my son will be tested for A.D.D. on thursday...

hope everyone had great holidays, much love and respect,

XOX
