...sorry!

Davy Jones' Locker Combo, possibly last show ever, we will probably do at least one more show, but it will be in the town of St. Helen's OR, NW of Portland at a classic car show. DJLC at Cozmik Pizza
Saturday 6/18 w/ Justice Beagle and Strange Dichotomy.... I know. I thought we wouldn't go out like THAT, but there it is. Also, its on the same night as Face To Face @ WOW Hall, so we may lose some of our audience to that show.... I was only able to add one new song for Saturday's set, but at least I changed up the order and added a few surprises.

bon voyage

DJLC played at Delphina Clothing Store on Last Friday artwalk,. .... well, last friday. then we played Angelo's in Portland Saturday with the mighty strange Dwight Dickinson.

this song been bouncing around in my empty brain for 2 days.

"So many rivers I've got to cross..."

AWESOME SHOW LAST NIGHT @ WOW HALL

Memorial for ‘Evil Eve’ Sabrina Cienfuegos with Dog Mage, Hot Drama, The Soothesayers, Free Beard, Ara, and Soul Scythe. Also, it was Chris Heathen's birthday. I pounded a few bottles of Guinness to spite the Queen.

I played the Blue Iceman again, Jimmy’s back was doing a little better. the sound was great and its nice to have a big stage to flop around on, which I did. Me and Tim did this ‘gargoyle’ thing where we knelt in front on either side of Samantha, I hope someone got a picture of that…

Soothesayers played 2 awesome gigs this weekend, neither was really publicized, and we didn’t really have to try hard for either of them: Miss Whiteaker Saturday and Eve’s Memorial last night, both really really fun and I think we sounded great, we’re past the ‘suck’ period finally.

Davy Jones’s Locker Combo plays at Delphina Friday, and Angelo’s in Portland Saturday.

Citizen Fish plays WOW Hall on Tuesday, the opening group is my former bandmates, ManOverBoard.

I missed the SMITHS Tribute at Wandering Goat Coffeehouse last night, but The Soothesayers played at the 'MISS WHITEAKER' pageant at Sam Bond's. This was a benefit for Sexual Assault Support Services, and Eugene City mayor Kitty Piercy was there for the whole event. I tried to get her a Soothesayers T Shirt, but she left before I was done putting away guitars and stuff.

Tonight, the Soothesayers play a memorial for 'Evil' Eve Cienfuegos. I didn't know her but our bass player, Tim, dated her a long time ago. She passed away from liver cancer last month. Should be a really fun show. I hope Jimmy's back issues improve and allow him to play a set as long as last night.

Dude, LIVEJOURNAL is loading more and more slowly on my macbook, anyone else having troubles?

Davy Jones Jocker Combo appears 4/20 at Kowloon's THE CITY Lounge, 2222 Martin Luther King Jr Bl
Eugene, OR 97401-2475. Kowloon's restaurant has been locally owned and operated since 1987, and our bass player, Creeper Collin works there as delivery guy. Girls, that is your in- order some Chinese Food, tip well (he may accept herbal offerings) with PIRATE RADIO and TBA. Don't know what/if cover charge, stay tuned for furthur on the enterprise. We'll also be playing 4/29 at the newly remodeled ASTORIA POKER LOUNGE, and that WILL be a FREE show.

The Soothesayers are finally back! we'll be playing 5/6 at th Grand Re-opening of Dawn Baby Salon on Willamette, I guarantee a good time will be had by all, and now there is a little more elbow room, to stash the keg, and um, do some kegstands! Dawn Baby Salon's last Soothesayers party became fodder for a new(ish) song titled BRING THE PAGNE! written by yours truly, Fred X Mertz, you can hear a rough mix of it on our Reverbnation page.

a roota manta golly, knocka shemba wemba doo.

Getting back into kickboxing regimen , not doing much music lately- the Davey Jones Locker Combo's drummer appears to be burning out, I have a hard time reaching him by phone lately, and then he cancels practices. we are supposed to do a show Sunday night at the old Shoji's on Willamette. If we play it will be at about 11 ....

there were a couple shows I wanted to go to last night, but after two giant beers and tons of cheese and salami, I wound up snoozing on the couch as Santina watched an awful animated movie called 'FLY ME TO THE MOON' about some house flys that ride in the apollo moon lander... yeah.

I ordered a mic pre-amp that I've needed forever... should be churning out some sweet demos soon

then without further ado (Can't believe I haven't posted this here already...) DJLC, Dracula's Daughter!

5 new songs for the newly christened 'Davey Jones Locker Combo'

WALKING INTO BATTLE WITH THE LORD (One of Chumbawamba's many war protest songs, this one masquerades as a gospel tune. I've punked it up considerably.)

CADAVER DOLLY (An original Mertz psychobilly tune)

CAT O 9 TALES (a re-work of a pirate tune and an Irish protest song, done to the tune of 'Courtin in the Kitchen')

CROW JANE STOMP (Cover of Nick Cave, re-worked into Western Swing style. A song about rape/revenge. Similar in plot to 'I Spit On Your Grave')

JOLLY NED TEACH OF BRISTOL (re: Blackbeard. May have been written by Ben Franklin)

We record on Wednesday, but probly none of these songs will be included on that recording.

Colin's radio show "CREEPER MADNESS" is on KWVA tomorrow night 10-12 and Sean Shanahan will be leading the Bluegrass Jam down at Sam Bond's Garage. I will be sitting in as 2nd engineer for another episode of "The Female Voice" Podcast from 5-6:30

I've secured a part time research job, and I have an interview tomorrow for something more full-time.
I may have some recourse to keep my old health plan, by paying it directly... which would kick ass.

I haven't ben that excited about jazz in a while, but I really enjoyed some more recent stuff I've heard by Henry Threadgill , like the VERY VERY CIRCUS and his smaller bands, sextet etc. NPR aint ALL bad, I guess.

I got tickets to the X show at Roseland theater in portland as Xmas gifts for my brother Timothy and sister Paula, so Nux and I left the kids with my Dad and Annie... (was that safe?) and we went to see a really amazing awesome shoe. Soothesayers Tim and Jenn were there, also ran into Sean Shanahan, Bruce from the Detonators, and John from Campfire Punk.

After the show, we went to the coin operate 24 hour church of Elvis, then back to my Dad's as Tim's flight was hella early Sunday morning.
