the DJ/host at KWVA last night, Aaron was a super cool cat.

our set was very hit and miss. it was difficult to hear each other and Nathan hadn't practice with us at all so timing was off on his vocal parts.

high points were BELA CIAO, HOPS & BARLEY, of course, the GENERAL GUINNESS.

Aaron said that KWVA had been mentioned in an article on the front page of the NY TIMES, and that we may have had over 400 listeners via streaming internet. No apparent activity on the myspace page tho.

we had lots of fun, but we need to practice practice practice

"A moment I've been dreading. George (Herbert Walker Bush) brought his n'er-do-well son around this morning and asked me to find the kid a job. Not the political one who lives in Florida; the one who hangs around here all the time looking shiftless. This so-called kid is already almost 40 and has never had a real job. Maybe I'll call Kinsley over at The New Republic and see if they'll hire him as a contributing editor or something. That looks like easy work."

We are the music-makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams.
World-losers and world-forsakers,
Upon whom the pale moon gleams;
Yet we are the movers and shakers,
Of the world forever, it seems.

With wonderful deathless ditties
We build up the world's great cities,
And out of a fabulous story
We fashion an empire's glory:
One man with a dream, at pleasure,
Shall go forth and conquer a crown;
And three with a new song's measure
Can trample an empire down.

We, in the ages lying
In the buried past of the earth,
Built Nineveh with our sighing,
And Babel itself with our mirth;
And o'erthrew them with prophesying
To the old of the new world's worth;
For each age is a dream that is dying,
Or one that is coming to birth.

Lieberman: Obama 'about perfect' in Cabinet picks

By Pat Eaton-Robb

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman took another step Tuesday toward mending his relationship with Democrats, saying that Barack Obama's actions since winning the presidency have been "just about perfect."

"Everything that President-elect Obama has done since election night has been just about perfect, both in terms of a tone and also in terms of the strength of the names that have either been announced or are being discussed to fill his administration," Lieberman said during a visit to Hartford.

Lieberman, the Democratic nominee for vice president in 2000, was re-elected to the Senate in 2006 as an independent but continues to caucus with Democrats. He supported Republican John McCain's presidential campaign, going as far as to criticize Obama and make a speech at the Republican National Convention.

LIEBERMAN is further to the right than many republicans. If he agrees with everything Obama has done so far, I'm concerned.

The Summers Conundrum

By Mark Ames / The Nation

We all know in the backs of our minds that Barack Obama's incredible victory will eventually be followed by disappointment. But does it have to come so soon, and hit so hard? The answer will be yes, if Lawrence Summers is named treasury secretary in the president-elect's cabinet, as many observers believe will be the case. Summers was one of the key architects of our financial crisis--hiring him to fix the economy makes as much sense as appointing Paul Wolfowitz to oversee the Iraq withdrawal. And when you look at the trail of economic destruction Summers left behind in other crisis-stricken countries who sought his advice in the past, then "terror" might be a more appropriate word than "disappointment."

Just before the first bite, preceding the flight
before you open the throttle all the way
when you hurry up to get there
as you take a breath of fresh air
diving from the highest place you find
there’s a moment when you know its coming just around the corner
your brain races ahead of your feet
that taste is so sweet

before it even touches your tongue
before the first song is sung
before you make the jump
the bells of st. poove’s are ringing out for you
things would be different if I ran the zoo
another rolled shoulder clod roast stew
under the sun there is nothing new
throw up a screen the going gets tough
you’ll soon find thats not enough
get ready to be squished like a bug
watch out now hear it comes ...

i'll pay you off in poems
in songs and dreams and wild ideas
the exchange rate might not be so good now
so be prepared for installments
maybe just once a week, I can fill up your ears
stimulate that damn cranial switchboard
and wire you hundreds of half-baked pearls
wisdom and shame, fortune and scandal, history, mystery and wide-eyed tomfoolery
from the midway to the guarded palace gates
you can cash these in any language, any country, any port
they can get you out of a jam, they don't take up any space
from your lips to god's ears, interest free.

i was gona put our old tree out for recycling, but instead I 'm going to cut it up for YULE LOGs.

A Yule log, sometimes known as the Great Ashen Faggot, is a large log which is burned in the hearth as a part of traditional Yule or Christmas celebrations in some cultures. It can be a part of the Winter Solstice festival or the Twelve Days of Christmas, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, or Twelfth Night.

The expression "Yule log" has also come to refer to log-shaped Christmas cakes, also known as "chocolate logs" or "Bûche de Noël".

I just got a call from a pal who wants me to comment on the "WOPR" plan.

The BLM’s Western Oregon Plan Revision, better known by its hamburgeresque acronym WOPR, is part of a nationwide effort by the Bush administration to roll back habitat protections while ramping up logging, oil and gas drilling, mining and other resource-extraction activities on public lands.

The BLM’s proposal would add 1,000 miles of new roads and eliminate 57 percent of the tree buffers along rivers and streams where salmon spawn. Watersheds that many communities rely on for their drinking water would be damaged. In August, EPA officials wrote letters expressing concern that hard-won water quality gains in the Northwest that have occurred under the Northwest Forest Plan could be lost under the proposed owl recovery plan.

Oregonians have until Jan. 11 to comment on the BLM’s proposal. By making that the first item on their list of resolutions, they can make certain they get a rolling start on the rest.

please go to the
public input website : and comment. the deadline is coming up VERY soon.

well, its official. me and my pop are signed up for 2008 AIDS/Lifecycle June 1-7 from SF to LA. 545 miles in 7 days. I'll be raising at least $2500, which will go the the LA Gay & Lesbian Center's AIDS treatment program- but AIDS does not discriminate by sexual orientation, it is an everybody disease.
one penny per mile would only put you out $5.45 I don't have my sponsor number yet, but I will post it here and probly bug you about it.

Hate Bush and Cheney? Me too! Kucinich is the only Dem who believes in impeachment and JAIL TIME for these bastards. He's the only Dem who wants to dismantle the 'for profit' healthcare system and he has good ideas on the environment and energy.

I had a dream that chachi on acid moved to Eugene to live. They tricked me into being their roadie. But of course I loved it.

before that,Saturday night after many cocktails and beers and playing with the kids and reading them stories, and watching SIX FEET UNDER and sleeping on the floor, I dreamed that I found a big wad of cash, like 20 $100 bills.

Soothesayers are NOT playing at Black Forest on New years eve, but we ARE playing Sam Bonds Garage, this Friday, Jan 4th. I think its with the Ovulators....

This is the Soothesayers

OMGOMGOMG I turn 38 this month.....

My hair is really fuckin LLOOOOOONNGG

naughty Miss Nuxie has sold about $150 of her handcrafted hats and scarves in the last week of December. Yes, that cute model is my daughter! what a sweetie, huh?

Nux also takes custom orders, and can do almost anything you can think of with yarn. (wink, wink!)

Its frosty out, but clear crisp and sunny.

Mertz and Flarbie are signing up for California AIDS/Lifecycle. Riding 545 from SF to LA the first week in June. We did this ride together in 1999 and raised over $6000 between the two of us, but I haven't been on a bike in quite a while. Watch this space for info on how you can sponsor me! I need to raise at least $2500, but of course I will surpass that amount, as its a good cause.

More info on Lifecycle here
